How does Kickstarter work?

Kickstarter is a platform which enables creators (that’s us) to put up projects for backers to support and help bring to life. When backers supports a project, they choose a reward - typically the product itself - to be received at the end of the line, provided the project is successful. That money is used for tooling, manufacturing and later on, production. Backers and creators keep constant communication throughout the process and, since this takes several months, prices are usually heavily discounted.

A project’s success is not guaranteed but we are what you’d call ‘Serial Creators’, this is our 4th Crowdfunding Campaign. We’ve always delivered to our backers. We’ve manufactured, shipped & delivered thousands of products to backers across 22 countries.

We guarantee constant, transparent communication throughout the process. We plan ahead and set realistic expectations for our backers, based on real experience.

Lastly, and more importantly, we include our backers in our story. From the moment they pledge until they receive the product, and even beyond that. We believe in creating products through the strength of feedback and collaboration.

Do you ship to my country?

Yep, we ship worldwide.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:07

Are shipping and taxes included in the pledge prices? Where do you ship from?

Shipping and Taxes (such as VAT, when applicable) are not included in the listed prices. These will be calculated for each backer (depending on their location) after the Campaign ends, through our Post-campaign survey. Why are we doing this? Logistics Prices are super unstable and unpredictable since the COVID-19 pandemic. This makes charging for shipping now, months before delivery, super risky and inaccurate. Rather than overcharging or undercharging for shipping, we prefer to wait until closer to delivery and charge a more precise amount. It also gives us more time to find better quotes, leveraged in larger quantities.

Shipping will be done from our fulfillment centers in the US, UK, EU, and Hong Kong, depending on the final location of delivery. Having “local” deliveries really makes the shipping process much easier for our backers, but please understand that European orders will still carry the VAT of the receiving country. This and other applicable taxes will be charged during the Post-campaign survey so that we can pre-pay for your VAT directly to the corresponding agency and, upon arrival, our backers don’t have to face unexpected payments right on the door with their package held hostage.

How much does the AURA helmet weigh?

The AURA Smart Helmet weighs just 370 g / 13 oz without Mips. As a kicker: AURA is supper well balanced, which makes it super comfortable even for long rides.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:31

Is the AURA helmet ventilated?

The AURA Smart Helmet features 16 (sixteen) vents strategically placed across the helmet for maximum breathability. It is really ventilated.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:31

Does the AURA Smart Helmet come with Mips?

Yes, all of our helmets come with the Mips System integrated.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:31

Does AURA have Crash Detection? How does it work?

Yes, AURA has Crash Detection.

In the event of an accident, AURA can detect a hard impact and, if you fail to respond to our safety check, send out an SOS text with your location.

Once a hard crash is registered by the onboard accelerometer (mild bumps won’t trigger this), a safety check timer will go off in our App. If the rider doesn’t respond, the SOS is sent to the emergency contact you have selected in the App. The safety check timer and even the SOS message are both customizable. The phone screen doesn’t have to be on for this feature to work but the App must be open (with Crash Detection active).

What colors does the AURA Smart Helmet come in?

AURA will start off with 4 colors: Blackbird, Stingray, Maverick & Chalk. As the Campaign grows, we will unlock new colors voted by the backers.

Is the Magnetic Buckle strong?

It is very strong. It’s actually stronger than a regular buckle. That thing can withstand 65kg of load. It is worth noting that magnets bring the buckles together but the actual link that holds them together is mechanical, not magnetic.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:31

What certifications does AURA have? Is it safe?

AURA is E-bike certified with NTA 8776. Also, it is compliant with CPSC & EN1078. It doesn’t get safer than this.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:36

How long does the battery last?

Depending on your settings (since AURA is highly customizable), the battery can last between 3 to 10 hours of riding.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:36

Is any of this waterproof?

Yes, all parts of our Cycling System (Helmet + Lights + Navigation Remote) are 100% waterproof.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:36

Are the visors interchangeable?

The helmet features magnetic, interchangeable visors for Urban Bikes, E-bikes, and Road Bikes.

Switching between them is really easy, and they would never detach from the helmet - we have you covered there, as we know some rides can get bumpy.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:40

How do the lights attach to the mounts? Will they not detach while I'm riding? For example, if I go over bumps.

The lights attach to the mounts through magnets. Both the Mount and the Smart Lights have three extremely strong magnets.

Thanks to the magnets’ strength, it is impossible for the lights to detach from the mounts.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:40

Would I be visible? How many lumens do the lights have?

With synchronized light effects, turn signals, brake lights, and over 700+ lumens of combined output, you will be more visible than ever.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:40

How can I charge my lights?

The Smart Lights can be charged individually via USB-C or via the Charging Case. In this case, the lights will be charged during transport. The case itself can be charged (with or without the lights) via a single USB-C.

If you don’t order a charging case, don’t worry! You can charge them using any USB-c charging cable.

Do I need the Nav Remote for Turn Signals & Brake Light?

Yes! The Nav Remote houses both the Turn Signal buttons and the sensors required to detect deceleration. Through the Nav Remote, you’ll enable Turn Signals & Brake Lights on all U1 devices.

Why do it through the Nav Remote? Firstly, we don’t want riders to remove their hands from the handlebar or fiddle with a glass screen to signal a turn. The Nav Remote features no-look buttons so you can operate it without looking down and without removing your hand from the handlebar.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:40

What is the battery life on the Nav Remote?

Super long. Over 30 hs of continued use. It is charged via USB-C.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:40

Why do I need an App for this?

The Companion App is the hub that controls all of your U1 devices. In it, you can track the battery levels of every device, customize everything (lights, animations, color, sensor sensitivity, active safety features, energy management), and finally, you have Crash Detection. This revolutionary feature involves both our helmet and the App. It requires an emergency contact set up and our timed safety check.

I have a FARO Helmet, will any of this work with it?

Absolutely.

The Smart Lights are 100% compatible with FARO, meaning you’ll be able to synchronize them, have all devices respond to the same Nav Remote (which if you have one already, will also work) and build your whole system.

The only element not compatible with our 1st generation FARO is the visors. This couldn’t be retrofitted BUT we will be launching the 2nd Generation FARO with visor compatibility. The same visors that work for AURA will work for FARO Gen 2.

Last updated: May 23, 2023 08:40

How is AURA different from FARO?

AURA and FARO cater to very different riding styles.

While FARO is a pure commuting helmet (short inner-city rides), AURA was designed for longer, more intense rides. We call it a Hybrid because it can work well on both urban or road riding. The interchangeable visors also enable AURA to be further customized for each rider.

The main differences between AURA and FARO are:

  • Weight: AURA weighs 370g while FARO weighs 580g. This is in part due to a larger battery and a bigger light footprint

  • Ventilation: AURA offers more ventilation than its pure urban counterpart, which is necessary for longer, sportier, or simply more intense rides.

  • Light footprint: FARO offers a larger light footprint, specially designed for the city. Customization: with its larger light footprint, FARO also allows for more customization on its lights than AURA. These include complex animations and RGB color control.

In short, both helmets excel at their jobs but they don’t really overlap. Much like different tasks require different tools, different rides require different helmets.

For a more detailed comparison, please check out the Campaign page.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
